Tommy starts his Mode Madness clinic at Skip's Music in Elk Grove to a packed house. His performance piece demonstrates the musical effects of some of the modes he covers in his clinic.

Tommy continues his Licks, Tricks and Tips series with a tutorial on Double stops. This technique is used heavily through all styles of guitar playing from Jazz and Country to Blues and Rock. Chuck Berry included double stops in most of his famous compositions and Jimi Hendrix used this technique extensively - Wind Cries Mary and Axis Bold as Love etc. It's a technique that's easy to master and sounds awesome. Enjoy.

Tommy finishes giving his "Mode Madness" clinic to a full house at Skip's Music in Sacramento with an original, Drift. The song's rhythm track is in drop D. Features Brad Lang from Y & T / Foriener on Bass and Michael Frowein from Lynch Mob on drums. The melody of the verse uses the D blues scale and the next sections use The Mixolydian Mode the Dominant Pentatonic and some Major arpeggios.

This track made me think of Mr. Hendrix's Red House. I know it's a bit fast and I've simplified it somewhat, but Red House has all the key features of the solo styles Tommy refers to in his tutorials including the classic switch to the Major Pentatonic over the A5 on the 8th bar.Upload your own version, or something completely different. Hope you have as much fun as I do jamming to the practice loops.

This practice track lends itself to lots of interesting variations.Blues players look as if they're not enjoying themselves - but they are, really.
